Microsoft has launched its new operating system, Windows 8, and will offer upgrades priced at Rs 699 to those using an existing Windows 7 product bought after June 2012.
"Starting today, Indian retail stores and our OEM (original equipment manufacturer) partners will have Windows 8 PCs and tablets, with the product range starting at just Rs 23,000," said Bhaskar Pramanik, chairman, Microsoft India. The company said nearly 250 devices from OEMs would be designed to support Windows 8.
Customers using Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP on PCs or laptops will qualify for a downloadable copy of the new operating system online for Rs 1,999. A Windows 8 upgrade assistant wizard will take customers through the process.
The company is also offering Windows 8 on physical discs in stores, though that option will cost Rs 3,499. The operating system will be available in 109 languages across 231 markets worldwide.
