Pakistan government on Saturday disclosed that at least 20 outlets of American fast-food chains across the country were attacked by religious extremists this month during the anti-Israel protests. One employee of the KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) outlet was killed and almost 160 suspects arrested. In most attacks, the activists of radical Islamist party -- Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) -- were involved. Pakistan's Interior State Minister Tallal Chaudhry told a press conference on Saturday near here that the government would protect the lives and properties, whether they are of Pakistani businesses or foreigners investing here. Yum! Brands, the US-based quick-service restaurant major, on Wednesday announced the appointment of Rohan Pewekar as the Managing Director (MD) for Pizza Hut in the Indian subcontinent. Yum! Brands owns restaurant chains, including KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and The Habit Burger Grill. Pewekar will be based in Gurugram and will lead Pizza Hut's operations across India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, according to a statement. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has revoked the licence of a McDonald's outlet in the state's Ahmednagar district after taking action against it over cheese, an official said on Saturday. The eatery belonging to the fast food giant had faced FDA scrutiny for allegedly using a cheese-like product in their dishes without indicating that it was actually a cheese substitute, thereby misleading customers, he said. Following an inspection and subsequent objections, the licence of the outlet was suspended, but it was revoked recently after the chain filed a compliance report confirming that they had removed the word cheese' from product names. In October 2023, we visited the outlet in Kedgaon and discovered that the names of food items displayed at the outlet included American Cheese Burger, American Cheese Nuggets, Cheese Burger, Italian Cheesy Lava Burger, and Blueberry Cheese Cake. Fast food major McDonald's franchise for west and south India on Friday said it is engaging with the "competent authorities" amid reports of Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration taking action against it for using cheese substitutes in its products. Hardcastle Restaurant, a subsidiary of Westlife Foodworld Ltd, has the franchisee rights to own and operate McDonald's restaurants in west and south markets in India. "We are actively engaging with the competent authorities on this issue and awaiting their final clarification. Quick service restaurant McDonald's India (West and South) on Thursday said it will now also display Allergen & Nutritional information for the entire menu of in-store and on McDelivery app to enable customers to make the right food choices. McDonald's India (West and South) has also eliminated artificial colours, artificial preservatives and artificial flavouring from select food items, said a statement issued by the Quick service restaurant (QSR) chain on World Health Day. "McDonald's believes that consumers should have easy access to nutritional information to help them make informed food choices.
