Classical vocalist Padma Vibhushan Pandit Chhannulal Mishra passes away

Renowned classical vocalist and Padma Vibhushan Pandit Chhannulal Mishra died early Thursday. He was 89. Family sources said Mishra breathed his last around 4 am after a prolonged illness. The vocalist had been living in Mirzapur with his youngest daughter's family for some time. According to sources, Mishra's health deteriorated late Wednesday night and he was admitted to a hospital, where he died during treatment. He is survived by three daughters and a son. His wife died four years ago.

Business tycoon Osamu Suzuki honoured with Padma Vibhushan posthumously

Late Japanese industrialist Osamu Suzuki, the former chief of Suzuki Motor Corporation, has been honoured with India's second highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan posthumously. Suzuki, who took a risk and bet on India when no one else believed in having a viable automobile company in India, has been awarded the 'Padma Vibhushan' for the year 2025 "for exceptional and distinguished service" in the field of trade and industry. He died last year at the age of 94. In 1981, Suzuki took the risk of partnering with the then Indian government to form a joint venture Maruti Udyog Ltd, at a time when India was still a closed economy under license regime. He is widely regarded as the man who spurred the automotive industry in the country. Maruti Udyog Ltd later on became Maruti Suzuki India Ltd subsequent to the government completing its exit in 2007 with Suzuki Motor Corporation holding majority stake. By conferring Padma Vibhushan on Mulayam, govt has mocked stature: Maurya

By conferring the Padma Vibhushan on Mulayam Singh Yadav, the government has made a mockery of his stature and contributions to the country, Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya said on Thursday. He and other party leaders demanded that the Samajwadi Party founder be conferred the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award. Yadav was conferred the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second highest civilian honour, posthumously on Wednesday.
