Analysts credit this underperformance to retail and high networth investors shifting attention towards initial public offerings (IPOs) and lingering valuation concerns in smallcaps

Model portfolios platform Smallcase on Friday said it has raised USD 50 million in a new funding round led by Elev8 Venture Partners. The funding round is a mix of primary issuance of shares by the company and also secondary, where existing investors have sold shares, as per a statement. Other investors who participated in the round include State Street Global Advisors, Niveshaay AIF, Faeringcapital and Arkam Ventures, it said. Newly raised money will be deployed for expanding investment product offerings across asset classes and strengthen relationships with retail investors and ecosystem partners, it said. The company launched in 2016 helps individuals take a diversified approach towards building long-term portfolios, and has witnessed transactions of over Rs 1.2 lakh crore. Zerodha Fund House, a joint venture between Zerodha and smallcase, witnessed substantial growth with its Assets Under Management (AUM) surging Rs 500 crore in just 40 days, taking the total tally to cross Rs 1,000-crore mark. Zerodha CEO says Smallcase's six years of experience in building investment products will come in handy for his firm while building "low-cost passive mutual fund products for India"

Brokerage house Zerodha on Wednesday said it has formed a joint venture with Amazon-backed wealth management firm smallcase to build an asset management company. The capital markets regulator Sebi's approval has already been received for setting up the joint venture. "While awaiting the final approval of our AMC (mutual fund), we asked if we should build it ourselves or collaborate. Given the 6+ years of experience that @smallcaseHQ has in building investment products, it made perfect sense to create a joint venture (JV) to build the AMC," Nithin Kamath founder and CEO of Zerodha tweeted.
