BEML aims to go green by utilising 100% renewable energy for captive use

The PSU company has inaugurated a 200 KWp grid connected rooftop solar project at its Mysore complex

BEML Ltd, a public sector company under Ministry of Defence, has set a goal of utilising 100 percent renewable energy for its captive consumption. In this endeavour, BEML on March 2, 2017 inaugurated a 200 KWp grid connected rooftop solar project at its Mysore complex. "With the installation and commissioning of the rooftop solar project, BEML inches towards achieving the target of utilising 100 percent renewable energy for captive consumption," said the company in a press release.

As part of its strategy to go for 100 percent green energy, BEML has commenced its initiation by setting up a 5 MW windmill project at Gadag district in Karnataka, which is generating power since 2007. In addition, it has set up an 18 MW windmill project at Koppal & Bagalkot districts in Karnataka, whereby power from 9 MW windmill is already getting generated. The balance 9 MW project is under commissioning.

With this, the total commissioned renewable energy capacity will be 23.2 MW which would meet the total power requirement of BEML.
