Mitsubishi Rayon & Lamborghini to jointly develop composites for automotive

Mitsubishi Rayon Co Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Italian automotive major Automobili Lamborghini SpA to jointly develop carbon fibre composite material for automotive use.

The two companies have been discussing the possibility of developing new applications in the area of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) for automotive use by combining Mitsubishi Rayon’s technology in CFRP intermediate materials and process technology and Lamborghini’s technology and knowledge in developing light-weighted component products. The MoU signed by the two companies is the first concrete step towards the implementation of joint development project.

“Based on the MoU, Mitsubishi Rayon and Lamborghini will start the consideration of the possibility of joint development, for the coming period of approximately a year, of new CFRP utilising new materials and new technologies in the area of carbon fibre composite material for automotive use, especially the technology to shorten processing time, to reduce production work and to automate the production,” said Mitsubishi Rayon in a press release.
