India vs England 3rd ODI highlights
India outshone England in all three departments on Wednesday in the third and final ODI of the series in Ahmedabad, as the Men in Blue registered a huge 142-run win over the Three Lions to complete a 3-0 whitewash. Shubman Gill, who scored a record-breaking century, set the stage by helping India post a 357-run target before the Indian bowlers wrapped up the English innings for 214, sealing a dominant victory.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first by Jos Buttler, India lost their first wicket early as last-match centurion Rohit Sharma (1) was dismissed on the first ball of the second over. However, Virat Kohli (52) finally got some runs under his belt, adding 116 for the second wicket with Shubman Gill before being dismissed by Adil Rashid, setting the stage for India’s middle order.
Shubman Gill (112) then scored a brilliant century and added 104 runs for the third wicket with Shreyas Iyer (78) before Adil Rashid struck twice to remove both batters. Hardik Pandya (17) hit two beautiful sixes before Rashid also disturbed his stumps, sending half the Indian team back to the pavilion.
Axar Patel (13) then became Joe Root’s victim while trying to accelerate the innings, before Saqib Mahmood trapped KL Rahul (40) in front of the wicket to strike another blow to India.
Washington Sundar (14) and Harshit Rana (13) took India past the 350-run mark before getting dismissed by Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson, respectively. India were ultimately bowled out on the final ball of their innings but not before posting 356 on the scoreboard.
In reply, England got off to a flyer with openers Phil Salt (23) and Ben Duckett (34) before Arshdeep Singh removed both, putting England on the back foot. Tom Banton (38) and Joe Root (24) tried to maintain momentum for the visitors, but they fell victim to Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel’s spin web, leaving England struggling once again.
Harshit Rana then wreaked havoc, dismissing skipper Jos Buttler (6) and Harry Brook (19) to compound England’s misery. Liam Livingstone (9) and Adil Rashid (0) lost their wickets to Washington Sundar and Hardik Pandya, respectively, while playing against the run of play, reducing England to 175 for 8.
Hardik then removed Mark Wood (9) to push the English side to the brink of defeat. Gus Atkinson (38) played some shots towards the end, but it was too late. Axar Patel cleaned up Atkinson’s stumps to bowl out England for just 214 in 34.2 overs, handing India a dominant series-clinching victory.
