Agilent aims to double its revenues from India in 3 yrs

| "Our Indian operations are growing over 30 per cent and we expect a significant traction from India with the expected boom in retail, oil exploration, defence and space, and life sciences industries. Keeping pace with our global revenue target, we hope that our Indian operations will generate $200 million in the next three years," said Venkatesh Valluri, president and country general manager, Agilent Technologies India. |

| The company on Monday announced the opening of a centre for excellence in Bangalore to cater to the Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis (LSCA) market in the country. |
| Part of the company's proposed $30 million investment plan, the centre will provide multi-role support to its customers in India that includes customer education and training, technology demonstration, pre and post-sales application support and customer sample analysis and technology support. Agilent manages eight LSCA centres of excellence globally. |
| Besides, the centre will also work to customise the measurement technology to meet the specific needs of its customers, said Nick Roelofs, vice-president and general manager, Life Sciences Solutions Unit, Agilent Technologies. |
| According to the company, top-30 pharmaceutical companies including Dr Reddy's, Cipla and Ranbaxy are its customers in India. |
| Agilent, which achieved revenues of $5.1 billion in FY06, employs 18,000 employees and its customers who use the measurement solutions are present in 110 countries. |
| Agilent started its operations in India in 1999 and sells tools for pharmaceutical quality analysis, clinical and contract research, contract manufacturing and commercial, and chemical testing for the food and beverage industry. |
| The company has about 1,300 people across the sales and support, high-end engineering and engineering services and transaction processing. |
| In the next three years, the company has announced to raise its headcount in India to 2000. The new additions will include 200 high-end R&D engineers, said Valluri. |
