US-based auto component maker Arvin Meritor today said it has opened its first technical centre in India and would be recruiting 100 engineers for the facility as part of its efforts to improve product development.
The new centre at Bangalore would focus on advanced product development initiatives for its components like axles and brakes, which are to be used in vehicle applications in the Asia-Pacific region, Arvin Meritor said in a statement.
"Growth in Asia Pacific, particularly India and China, is a key component of our business strategy. To support the growth we have planned in this region, we identified the need to increase the size of our engineering footprint in India," Arvin Meritor Vice-President and MD (Asia Pacific) Tim Bowes said.
The new 16,000 sq ft centre would help the company to provide advanced product solutions for transport, military and industrial applications, he said.
The Bangalore centre would also support the company's engineering needs in other parts of the globe including North America, South America and Europe.
Approximately 100 employees would be recruited for the new facility, the company added.
Arvin Meritor has been present in the Indian market for last 10 years, basically involved in distribution of components.
Its clients in India include Bharat Forge, the Kalyani Group and Caterpillar.
