Zee Telefilms has posted a 2.83 per cent rise in net profit for the first quarter ended June 30, 2003, to Rs 17.07 crore as against Rs 16.60 crore for the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Income from sales and services fell 1.51 per cent to Rs 91.63 crore (Rs 93.04 crore). Expenditure remained near-stagnant at Rs 68.68 crore (Rs 68.24 crore). The company posted a profit before tax of Rs 25.37 crore (Rs 24.72 crore).

The consolidated net profit of Zee Telefilms rose 30.7 per cent to Rs 62.30 crore (Rs 47.67 crore). Total revenue rose by 16.27 per cent to Rs 289.30 crore (Rs 248.80 crore). Subscription revenue (at Rs 142.80 crore) has for the first time overtaken advertising revenue (Rs 121.20 crore).

Britannia Q1 net profit rises 53%

Britannia Industries has posted a 53 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 28.60 crore for the first quarter ended June 2003 whereas the same was at Rs 18.70 crore in the quarter ended June 2002. Total income (net of excise) is at Rs 345.50 crore (Rs 311.90 crore).

Pursuant to implementation of Accounting Standard 26 relating to intangible assets and in accordance with transitory provisions of the standard, unamortised expenditure on voluntary retirement schemes and on non-compete fees has been adjusted against opening revenue reserves as at 1 April 2003. But for this change, profit before tax for the quarter would have been lower by Rs 2.70 crore.

MRF bottomline down 50% in Q3

Chennai-based tyre major MRF on Tuesday announced a 9.4 per cent increase in sales and a 50 per cent dip in net profit, for the third quarter ended June 30, 2003. For the quarter, total income surged to Rs 643.80 crore (Rs 588.43 crore).

Net profit slid to Rs 15.33 crore (Rs 29.47 crore). The decline in profits is attributed to the rise in raw material costs, which have gone up from Rs 271.90 crore for the same period last year to Rs 336.07 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2003. The board of directors has announced a second interim dividend of 30 per cent for the year ending September 30, 2003.

Gillette H1 net zooms 15-fold

Gillette India said its net profit has soared by over 15 times for the first half ended June 2003 to Rs 26.96 crore from Rs 1.69 crore a year ago. Net sales, however, fell 1.66 per cent to Rs 181.08 crore (Rs 184.14 crore), a company statement said.

For the second quarter ended June 30, 2003, net profit surged by 338 per cent to Rs 18.79 crore from Rs 4.29 crore in the previous year. The company reduced its total expenditure by 35 per cent to Rs 63.05 crore (Rs 97 crore).

BHEL Q1 net loss at Rs 11.08 crore

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has posted a net loss of Rs 11.08 crore for the first quarter ended June 2003 as compared with Rs 48.91 crore in the quarter ended 30 June 2002. Total income increased to Rs 1,099.67 crore (Rs 900.48 crore).

Pentamedia net profit at Rs 2.58 crore

Pentamedia Graphics, the Chennai-based entertainment graphics company, has posted a turnover of Rs 61.57 crore and a net profit of Rs 2.58 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2003. Comparitive figures for the year-ago period were not furnished.

Wockhardt Q2 net increases 13.3%

Pharma major Wockhardt has posted a 13.3 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 34.9 crore for the second quarter ended June 30, 2003, compared with Rs 30.8 crore in same period previous fiscal. Income from operations grew 4.6 per cent at Rs 202.6 crore (Rs 193.7 crore).

For the first half ended June 2003, net profit declined by 20.5 per cent at Rs 43.4 crore (Rs 54.6 crore in H1 last year) while income from operations decreased by 1.5 per cent at Rs 353.6 crore (Rs 359 crore).

Indian Rayon net up 43% in Q1

Indian Rayon has reported a net profit of Rs 21.56 crore for the quarter ended June 30, up 43 per cent from Rs 15.08 in the corresponding period of the previous year. However, net sales dipped 7 per cent to Rs 339 crore (Rs 364.5 crore).
