DMRC entrusted with Kochi Metro work

After a two-week long stalemate, the Kerala government finally said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) would be fully entrusted with the work of Kochi metro.

This was announced by chief minister Oommen Chandy after a meeting of the state planning board, in which E Sreedharan is also a member, at Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.

In a joint press conference, Chandy said Sreedharan would lead the implementation of the project and the state would try to have him at the helm of affairs of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) the newly formed company for the purpose.

He would also assist the road infrastructure projects of the state and the proposed high speed railway corridor.

Sreedharan said the work would be completed in three years once all clearances were received.

He would associate with the project in his capacity as adviser to DMRC.

Sreedharan also expressed his willingness to join KMRL as its chairman.

DMRC will take all the major decisions, including inviting global tender.

Sreedharan on Wednesday had said he would associate with the Kochi metro only if the project was fully entrusted with DMRC.
