Essar Projects bags Rs 342 cr contract in Myanmar

Major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor Essar Projects (India) Ltd has signed a contract with the Ministry of External Affairs to execute port and inland water transport components of the 'Kaladan Multi Modal Transit Transport Project' in Myanmar.

The contract for port and water transport is worth Rs 342 crore and it is to be executed within 36 months, a company release said here today.

It involves construction of two jetties at Sittwe and Paletwa in Myanmar, dredging and construction of barges to facilitate cargo movement along the river Kaladan. In addition, construction of a port at Sittwe is also a major component of the agreement, the release said.

The project is being executed by the Indian government under a framework agreement between the two countries to ease the movement of goods from the mainland India to the north- eastern states.

The project has a component of 120 km road also to be constructed in Myanmar from the river terminal to the Indo- Myanmar border. The construction of road will be taken up under a separate contract, the release said.

Essar Projects has a special expertise in pipelines for oil, gas and water. It has over 20 years of experience in laying onshore and offshore pipelines. So far, the firm has executed projects worth over $12.5 billion, it added.
