A fire broke out near an ONGC drilling site in Assam's Sibsagar district today, officials said.
The fire, caused by oil seepage from the oilfield at Geleki to the PSU's Atkhel drilling site, was controlled immediately by its fire service, they said.
Foam was used to control the fire, the officials said, adding that the extent of damage was yet to be ascertained.
Local residents alleged that extensive oil seepage have polluted water bodies in the area, while ONGC authorities said measures are being taken to control it.
