Global Hospital will be opening its fourth hospital in the country at Mumbai within two months.

Global Hospital Chairman K Ravindaranath told reporters it had already opened hospitals in Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.

The hospital, which had specialised in liver transplants, could perform over 100 to 150 transplants at each branch every year, he said.

The hospital's branch here had recently performed a rare simultaneous liver transplantations on two Sri Lankans, he said.

Mohamad Nazeem from Kandy was diagnosed to have cirrhosis of liver few months back and came to the hospital. Though his wife came forward to donate her liver, she had an incompatible blood group, Ravindranath said.

Another patient from Kandy, Mohamed Nazir, also came to the hospital for a chronic liver disease and his son came forward to donate his liver, but their blood groups were not matching.

The doctors at the hospital here suggested a swap liver transplantation to the two families, which was readily agreed by them.

The doctors then transplanted the liver of Nazeem's wife to Nazir and the liver of Nazir son to Nazeem.

The 16 hour simultaneous surgery on four patients were performed successfully and the patients were discharged and would be leaving for Sri Lanka very soon, Mohamed Rela, the surgeon who conducted the surgery said.
