General Motors Corporation, the world’s largest automaker, today opened its second manufacturing facility in India to increase its annual car manufacturing capacity from 85,000 to 2,25,000. The company has invested $300 million to set up this plant in Talegaon, which will see an additional investment of $200 million for proposed power train facility.
Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh rolled out the first car Chevrolet Spark from this plant over 22 months duration. GM India MD Karl Slym said, “The company will deliver 3,00,000 engines for domestic and international markets once the power train facility gets begin operations by year 2010. Slym also added that the company plans to introduce two new Chevrolet models in India, on the lines of Optra.”
