Intel withdraws suit against govt

The world's largest chip maker Intel Corporation today withdrew its suit before the Delhi High Court against the government, trademark registry and the two small firms which have got registered its trademark till 2017.

During the proceedings, counsels appearing for the Intel Corporation informed the division Bench headed by the Chief Justice A P Shah about their decision to withdraw the suit against the trademark registry.

The chip maker requested the court to allow it to contest the grant of trademark of Intel to two small firms Intel Instrument and Intel Exports, making measuring instruments, at an appropriate court.

This was accepted by the division Bench which said "the present appeal and the writ petition are dismissed as withdrawn with liberty as prayed for".

The division Bench was hearing the Intel's petition in which the chip maker had challenged an order of a single- member Bench which had declined to hear its plea over renewal of its trademark in favour of Intel Instrument and Intel Exports by the trademark registry without having authority.

The single-judge Bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna had said the registration was granted by the trademark registry in Mumbai and the Delhi High Court has no territorial jurisdiction over that.

This was challenged by Intel Corporation before the division Bench.
