The state government is looking into the demands of Hero Motocorp regarding incentives and facilities to be provided at its proposed production site in Dharwad, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said today.

Hero Motocorp, a leading two-wheeler manufacturer, will be setting up its production unit there at a cost of Rs 1,450 crore.

The unit will come up on 300 acres in Mummigatti near Dharwad, Siddaramaiah said, adding it planned to manufacture 1.8 million two-wheelers.

The company officials held a meeting with the government here on July 5 to discuss their wishlist.

"They have demanded some incentives and facilities to be provided at the site," Siddaramaiah said in the state Assembly.

The cabinet sub-committee is looking into the wishlist provided by the company, he said, adding the government has already approved the proposal to provide power and water at the proposed unit.

Dharwad already houses Tata Marcopolo Motors, which manufactures buses, and Telco Construction Equipment company, Siddaramaiah said.

This would be the sixth two-wheeler factory coming up at Mummigatti.

Raising the issue, Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar of the BJP said the government should look into the demands made by the company so as to checkmate Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's quest to woo the two-wheeler maker to invest in the neighbouring state.

"The government should discuss and give them incentives and facilities demanded by them as it is likely to create 25,000 jobs in phases, which will be beneficial for the people of North Karnataka region," he said.
