Major UP towns register 39% growth in job creation during Q1

Six major cities of Uttar Pradesh have clocked an average growth of over 39% in new job creation in the first quarter of the current fiscal, Assocham has said.

 

An analysis of six cities - Agra, Allahabad, Aligarh, Lucknow, Kanpur and Meerut - during first quarter against the corresponding period last year shows new jobs in these places have primarily been generated in education and services sectors, it said in a release here.

 

Around 5,230 new jobs were generated across these cities in the first quarter of current fiscal as against over 3,750 new jobs during the same period last year, Secretary General of Assocham DS Rawat said.

 

"This authenticates and substantiates the fact that companies today are moving to tier-II and III cities to attract talent, cut operational expenses and remain competitive," he said in the release.

 

The Assocham team tracked the data on a daily basis for vacancies posted by over 3,000 companies of 32 sectors on various job portals, national and regional dailies and news journals in 56 cities, the release said.

 

"With over 2,690 new jobs generated in Lucknow alone, it has garnered maximum share of over 51% in the total number of new jobs followed by Meerut that accounts for about 16% share with over 830 new jobs generated across the city," Rawat said.

 

Kanpur, Allahabad, Agra and Aligarh accounted for a share of about 13%, 10%, 7% and 3%, respectively, in the new job generation.

 

Lucknow and Kanpur have clocked year-on-year growth rate of over 58% and 53%, respectively.

 

While the new job generation in Meerut and Allahabad grew 21%, Agra and Aligarh registered an annual growth of about 8%, Assocham release said.

 

The education sector has garnered maximum share in new job generation across these cities with 2,340 new jobs.

 

By creating 1,490 new jobs in the academics and education sector, Lucknow has accounted for about 64% share.

 

In Lucknow, the IT, ITeS and hardware sectors have together generated over 130 new jobs followed by auto (over 125 jobs) and real estate (over 100 jobs).

 

"A total of over 1,25,500 new jobs were generated across India during the period. However, the new job generation growth has declined by about 2% as compared to 1,27,700 new jobs generated in the first quarter of the last financial year," Rawat said.
