Ola Cabs, largest cab aggregator in country, plans to introduce electric cars in its fleet and is talking to carmakers to provide the cars at competitive costs to its drivers.

"We are in active talks with companies. You will see them soon on roads," said Bhavish Aggarwal, founder of Ola Cabs said on Friday. "There is huge growth potential for electric cars. Today's cars have a limit of 150 kms and you need to recharge.. We are co-creating cars to see how we can expand the range".

Ola will be the second company in India to explore electric taxis after Bengaluru-based Lithium, which introduced such cars in May with a fleet of 100 cars.

India's cities are increasingly getting congested due to higher number of cars slowing down traffic. "The US model is unsustainable in India. Here, most youngsters don't own a car or don't want a car," he said.

Ola, which plans to grow fivefold to a million vehicles in its fleet through partners, expects to grow to 200 cities by next year.

"We are looking at solving the mobility problem in India. We are evaluating all possibilities in addressing this," said Aggarwal.
