The global IT hardware and software solutions provider announced its latest SPARC T5 and M5 servers for India targeting the mid and high-range enterprise computing segment.
The firm claims that its T5 microprocessor is the world's fastest microprocessor with up to three times faster speed compared to other competitive platforms like the one by IBM."Oracle's SPARC T5 is the world's fastest processor today with up to 3x faster application performance than IBM or any other competing platform," Oracle India Managing Director Sandeep Mathur told PTI.
The new servers add to Oracle's existing portfolio in the competitive server market in India with IBM and HP as other key players."The new SPARC range provides unmatched performance for mid-range and high-end enterprise computing compared to any other competitive offering in the market today," he added.
The enterprise server market in India was estimated to be worth Rs 3,680 crore in 2012. In the non-x86 segment, Oracle is locked in a fierce battle with IBM for market share. The firm claims its SPARC T8-5 has a 2.5 times price performance advantage over the IBM P780 3-node cluster when including all hardware and software costs."Oracle acquired Sun in 2010, and since that time Oracle has been steadily investing USD 5 billion a year in R&D to engineer its hardware and software together and deliver new SPARC processors and server hardware every 12 to 18 months," Oracle India VP (Systems Business) Venkatesh Krishnan said.
Oracle will leverage its large partner base, which includes systems integrators like TCS, Wipro, HCL, etc and value added distributors like Avnet, Redington and tier-2 partners, to gain market penetration for the new range, he added.
