SJVNL mulls wind, solar energy Venture

Himachal Pradesh- based hydropower company Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) may soon enter into wind, solar energy and the trading sector.

This was disclosed by company chairman-cum-MD H K Sharma here today on a day bolstered by its Initial Public Offer (IPO) in the Bombay Stock Exchange.

“Today our’s is the best running hydro power company in the country.We are making around Rs 450 crore per year from the 1,500-Mw Nathpa Jhkari project,” Sharma said.

“We plan to commission the World Bank funded 412-Mw Rampur project by September 2013, and this will fetch us an additional Rs 200 crore ,” he said. The company has built and now runs the Nathpa Jhakri project , the largest hydro power project in India.

SJVNL has also bagged work in Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Bhutan and Nepal.

“Our financial strength is so good that we are in a position to meet a large chunk of investments in these upcoming projects on our own,” said Sharma.

State-run SJVNL is a joint venture between the Centre and the Himachal government. The Centre holds 74.5 per cent stake.
