Tata Motors sales up 12% in February

Auto-maker Tata Motors today reported a 11.69% increase in sales during February to 77,543 units from 69,427 units in the same month of 2010.

The homegrown firm's total passenger vehicles sales in the domestic market stood at 31,909 units in February, an 18.25% increase from 26,985 units in the same month last year, the company said in a statement.

Sales of the company's compact small car, the Nano, stood at 8,262 units sales during the month, a 101% increase vis-a-vis the corresponding period of the previous year.

Its 'Indica' range of cars witnessed sales of 10,044 units, down 12.7% from February, 2010, Tata Motors said.

The 'Indigo' family recorded sales of 8,966 units, a rise of 22% vis-a-vis the same month last year. Sales of Tata Motor's 'Sumo', 'Safari' and 'Aria' models increased by 16% to 4,637 units.

In the commercial vehicles segment, the company sold 41,130 units in the domestic market during the month, compared to 39,205 units in the corresponding month of the previous year, translating into a 4.91% increase.

Light commercial vehicle sales during the month amounted to 23,498 units, a growth of 8% over the last year, while medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales stood at 17,632 units, a growth of 1% compared to February, 2010.

The company's exports grew by 39.14% in February to 4,504 units from 3,237 units in the same month last year, it added.
