Tata Steel today announced a major five-year improvement programme for its Ijmuiden steelworks plant in the Netherlands, which will entail an investment of 800 million euros, the company said today.

The programme will help increase the capacity of the plant from 7.2 million tonnes to  7.7 million tonnes of liquid steel by 2015-16 and around 1,000 full time jobs at the plant will be reduced in the next four years, the company said.

Tata Steel said the improvement programme will focus on three goals: further enhancing product quality, improving plant reliability and reducing costs.
