Tata Motors is yet to decide on manufacturing its ultra-cheap passenger car Nano from Pantnagar, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary I K Pande said today.
"We asked the Tata Motors officials whether they are starting production of Nano from Pantnagar, they (company officials) said no decision has been taken yet," he told reporters after a meeting here.
His comments come in the midst of uncertainty over the location from where Tatas would roll out the Nano, even as West Bengal Industry Minister Nirupam Sen told the state cabinet today that there was little possibility of the Tata plant coming up in Singur.
Sources said yesterday that Tata Motors has begun carting out equipment from the under-construction Singur plant, where work was suspended early this month due to protests, to another facility to meet roll out obligation of the world's cheapest car.
Today's meeting with Uttarakhand officials was to settle issues related to Tata Motors' Pantnagar plant, from where the company manufactures the Ace mini-trucks.
Pande also said the most of the demands have been accepted and that the government was ready to give 50 acres of land for housing purpose to the auto major.
He said the government has also taken a positive view regarding the concession being sought by Tata Motors on lease rent of its Pantnagar plant.
