United Spirits (USL), which is on the cusp of a $1 billion acquisition of Whyte & Mackay, has tripled its net profit for the fourth quarter of FY07.
 
Backed by synergies of acquiring Shaw Wallace and integrating all the spirits business under the United Spirits umbrella, the company's net profit has gone up to Rs 53.52 crore during the fourth quarter, over three times the figure for the corresponding period last year. The UB Group-controlled company, which is among the top three globally on volume terms, reported a net income of Rs 651.49 crore in the fourth quarter, nearly doubling the sales.
 
The company's earnings before interest, depreciation, tax and amortisation (EBIDTA) also doubled to Rs 110.3 crore.
