Terming as 'extremely unfortunate' and 'reprehensible' the attack on Indian jawans by Pakistani forces, the government today said there should be no partisan politics on the issue.

'I think it is extremely unfortunate, it is reprehensible. But I would like to appeal to everybody not to play partisan politics with it,' Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said.

'The UPA government has always been forthcoming on questions of national security. Whenever there has been an aberration, we have dealt with it firmly and strongly. Our track record bears testimony to it,' he said.

He further said that whenever such an incident takes place, the ministry of defence and the minister of defence should be allowed to react appropriately.

'Parliament is in session, they would come out with a structured response. But in the meanwhile it would serve everybody's cause if people do not play partisan politics,' Tewari said.

The I&B minister was reacting to questions related to the attack by Pakistani troops, who entered Indian territory along the Line of Control in Poonch sector and ambushed a patrol killing five Indian soldiers.
