When a BJP spokesman couldn't sing Vande Mataram, even from his phone

And in Jaipur, the mayor has made it mandatory for employees of the municipal corporation to swing both the national anthem and the national song everyday

Will you ask someone to sing Vande Mataram even when you can't do it yourself? A BJP spokesperson, found himself in this awkward position on live television recently.

In a TV discussion on Zee Salaam, BJP's spokesperson Navin Kumar Singh tried to make the representative of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Mufti Ejaz Arshad Qasmi sing the national song, Vande Mataram but ended up making a spectacle of himself. The video of a fumbling Navin Kumar Singh then went viral all over social media and people couldn’t stop chuckling. The two-minute video clip has been doing rounds on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter over the last few days.

The clip shows Singh initially forgetting the words of the song. Later he tried to sing it by reading from his mobile phone and still managed to make a mess of it. This is what he ended up singing-

Vande Mataram Sujalam Sufalam Malayaja Sheetalam Sansayaam
Malyaam Subhrat Jotsam Pulkityaam Vande Mataram Pulkistan
Sumita Dumal Tsunami (?) Suhasin Sumantra Bulshumaani

Navin Kumar Singh was part of a TV news debate on Zee Salaam. He entered into a squabble with Qasmi. Arguing on the topic of patriotism, Qasmi asked Singh to prove his nationalism by singing the national song. Initially, he asked Qasmi to join him in singing the song but the AIMPLB leader refused. Singh wavered in the first line itself of the song and later used his mobile phone to see the lyrics but to everyone’s shock, he still couldn't sing it right.

This wasn’t the first time a BJP member got the words to Vande Mataram wrong. In August, BJP's Baldev Singh Aulakh was also unable to sing the song on a TV news show at India Today.

The video has gone viral on social media and Singh too has been trolled like anything. Twitterati used #Pulkistan to comment on this video as they took potshots at Navin Kumar Singh.

Here are some of the reactions:
In other news, BJP-ruled Jaipur municipal corporation and its mayor Ashok Lahoti have decreed that the national anthem and national song be sung every day. This order was implemented from Tuesday.

The national anthem will be sung at 9.50 am every morning. At around 5:55 pm, five minutes before the closing time, the employees have to sing the national song, Vande Mataram before going home.
