Modi asked the international community to tackle the increasing challenges posed by terrorists across the globe. He rued the fact that so far, the international community hadn't been able to define terrorism. India, he said, had been a victim of terrorism for the past 40 years. "We cannot waste time in defining 'terrorism' … We cannot let the 21st century to be stained with terrorism." said, adding he would raise the issue again before the United Nations, where he is scheduled to address a UN Peacekeeping Summit.
Modi's address followed visits to the headquarters of some of the world's biggest technology companies, hoping to convince them to bring more investment and jobs to India. Modi is the first Indian leader to visit the West Coast in about 30 years. His trip followed a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who met several technology leaders in Seattle last week. "India has moved on from scriptures to satellites," Modi said, adding, "The world has started to believe the 21st century belongs to India."
Technology executives, eager to expand into India, embraced Modi's initiative, with the chief executives of Facebook, Google and Tesla Motors hosting him at their headquarters. Apple chief executive Tim Cook met Modi at his hotel.
