Committee to set up traffic congestion submits report

After going through several deliberations, a committee constituted by the state government to make a proposal for reduction of traffic congestion in Arunachal Pradesh capital, has submitted its report.

The committee submitted its report to chief minister Pema Khandu in presence of chief secretary, principal secretary (Coordination) and the DIG on Satruday, an official release said on Sunday.

In the report, several short term and medium term proposals were submitted.

To convert several sector roads as one way with the National Highway being open for two way traffic were included in the proposal while it also added that the busy locations where there is heavy traffic, 'no traffic zones' would be notified.

For the successful implementation of the proposed traffic plan, it was proposed to deploy manpower from the available police forces and traffic warden such that on ground implementation can be started immediately without delay.

Initially, a trial would be done in Itanagar on pilot basis and if successful, then it would be implemented in Naharlagun and nearby locations.

The report also proposed to constitute a task force under the chairmanship of DC Capital with SP Capital, ADM and director (Transport) as members to enforce the proposal submitted for reduction in traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, chief minister Khandu has desired that the same should be implemented in Itanagar on pilot basis from August 20 next and public suggestions would be invited during the implementation for the modification of proposal if any.

He also directed that the plan should be implemented after proper publicity in the media.

The Chief Secretary and the DGP assured of providing full support in terms of manpower or any other requirements for the implementation of the plan, the release added.
