Delhi Metro ride gets costlier from today: All you need to know

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party has been vociferously opposing the fare hike

Travelling on the Delhi Metro became costlier from today, with the minimum fare set at Rs 10 and the maximum at Rs 60.

Only the minimum fare of Rs 10 for a distance of 0-2 km remains unchanged, while for all other fare slabs commuters will have to pay Rs 5-10 more than earlier for distance travelled. 
 

 

While commuters pay Rs 15 for a distance travelled between 2 and 5 km, now they will have to pay Rs 20. The maximum fare has been increased to Rs 60 from Rs 50.

 

Delhi govt-DMRC tussle: The story so far

• Delhi Metro's fourth Fare-fixation committee had proposed a phased increase in Metro fares. The Metro fares were revised in May when the minimum tariff was raised from Rs 8 to Rs 10 and the maximum fare from Rs 30 to Rs 50. Passengers carrying a smart card and travelling during the off-peak hours — between 6 am - 8 am, 12 pm - 5 pm and 9 pm onwards — were given a discount of 20%. On Sundays and national holidays (26 January, 15 August and 2 October), the discount was of around Rs 10 across slabs.  Read more
