The notification for the first phase of admission process for engineering and medicine in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has been postponed to a later date.

Though the Admissions Committee on July 29 stated the notification would be released the following day and was positive on winding up the process in both states by August 15, it has not communicated any later date to the office of the convenor.

“We haven’t received any communication from the committee for conducting the Phase-I admissions in both the states,” said a senior official from the Sanketika Bhavan, which releases advertisements for notification, here. The official, however, indicated the committee would now have to postpone the process to August 4, the date when the matter would come up for hearing in the Supreme Court.

The Admissions Committee, headed by AP State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) chairman, L Venugopal Reddy, had earlier stated the council would kick-start the process in view of the Supreme Court’s observation that it had not objected to the admission process when the Telangana government approached it seeking extension of admission deadline to October 2.

The decision to start the admission process was, however, taken by the committee in the absence of representatives from Telangana.

Meanwhile, representatives from private engineering colleges said they expected clarity on the issue only next week.

Earlier, in its reaction to the APSCHE announcing dates, the Telangana government stated the matter was ‘sub-judice’ and argued that according to the Section 95 of the AP Reorganisation Act, common admissions had to be taken up with mutual consent from both the states.
