Industry today expressed concern over the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh and urged the state government to take urgent corrective measures.

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region Chairman Jayant Davar said the state needed to strengthen its law and order machinery and deploy additional force to maintain vigil, if required.

“We would soon benchmark UP against other states so far as the law and order situation in concerned,” he replied to a pointed Business Standard query.

He, however, added that the state government was making efforts in this direction. “The intent of the government is good with regards to improving the law and order situation,” Davar claimed.

He conceded that any negative perception about law and order situation would have a detrimental effect on the prospects of furthering industrialisation and attracting investment.

He was in town to spell out the CII priorities during 2013-14 with regards to engaging the Akhilesh government on issues of industry and development. Davar is also the Managing Director of Sandhar Technologies Limited.

He reiterated the CII objective of promoting ‘Brand UP’ and boosting key areas of power, renewable energy, sugar, infrastructure etc.

“The new industrial policy of UP has several elements of CII submissions been incorporated by the government, which is quite heartening,” he underlined.

Meanwhile, CII announced various events lined up during the current fiscal.

UP is targetting 8.5% growth during 12th Plan (2012-17). It is aiming industrial and services growth rates of 7.1% and 10.9% respectively.
