Kupwara: Army Jawan injured in ongoing encounter in Machil sector

After being challenged, the suspected militants opened fire on the forces, triggering off an encounter

An army soldier has been injured in the ongoing gunbattle at Machil sector along the LoC in Kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday.

Soldiers of 56 Rashtriya Rifles, who were manning the LoC, intercepted a militant group at Katwara forest area near Jet Gali in Machil sector on Tuesday morning.

After being challenged, the suspected militants opened fire on the forces, triggering off an encounter.

In the initial exchange of gunfight, a soldier sustained injuries and was been immediately airlifted to Army's 92 base hospital for treatment.

When reports last came in, the exchange of gunfight was still going on.
