Myanmar reports 367 new Covid infections, tally rises to 525,005

The number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 525,005 in Myanmar after 367 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the past 24 hours, according to a release from the Ministry of Health on Tuesday.
 
With six more deaths, the death toll has increased to 19,152 on Tuesday, the release said.
 
A total of 501,189 patients have been discharged from hospitals and over 5.7 million samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far.
 
Myanmar detected its first two COVID-19 positive cases on March 23 last year.

Singapore reports 715 new Covid-19 cases

Singapore reported 715 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total tally in the country to 270,588.
 
Of the new cases, 700 were in the community, five were in migrant worker dormitories and 10 were imported cases, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the statistics released by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
 
A total of 827 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with 43 cases being critically ill and intubated in the intensive care unit (ICU). The current overall ICU utilisation rate is 53.3 per cent.

Bengal logs 507 new COVID cases, 9 more deaths

West Bengal on Tuesday reported 507 new COVID-19 cases, 42 more than the previous day, with the tally rising to 16,20,229, a health department bulletin said. Kolkata and North 24 Parganas accounted for 258 fresh cases, it added.

Nine new fatalities due to the infection raised the death toll to 19,562, it said.

North 24 Parganas accounted for four fresh COVID deaths while two were reported in Kolkata, and one each in South 24 Parganas, Hooghly and Dakshin Dinajpur districts, the bulletin said.

Omicron: Four more international travellers admitted to LNJP hospital in Delhi

Four more international travellers were on Tuesday admitted to the Delhi government-run Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan hospital's special facility for isolating and treating those infected with the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus, officials said.
 
"There are a total of 30 people -- 25 positive cases and five suspected cases -- at the facility at present. All the four passengers who arrived on Tuesday are Indians," Medical Director of the hospital Suresh Kumar said.
 
Delhi reported its first case of Omicron on Sunday -- a 37-year-old fully-vaccinated man who arrived in the city from Tanzania.
 
The man, a resident of Ranchi, travelled from Tanzania to Doha and from there, to Delhi on a Qatar Airways flight on December 2. He stayed in Johannesburg in South Africa for a week. He has mild symptoms.
 
The results of 12 of the 17 samples sent for genome sequencing were released on Sunday, with 11 of those being negative for Omicron.

UK reports over 100 new cases of Omicron Covid variant

Britain reported 101 new cases of the Omicron COVID variant taking the total cases to 437, British health authorities confirmed Tuesday.
 
The early indications are that the Omicron variant of coronavirus is more transmissible than Delta, said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as he updated his team of ministers on the latest COVID-19 situation at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
 
Scientists have called on the government to take more action and are urging people to be more cautious as Omicron cases continue to rise in the country.
 
Britain registered 45,691 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 10,560,341, according to official figures released on Tuesday.

Govt sanctions 2,877 EV charging stations in 68 cities

To bring the cost of electric vehicles at par with petrol vehicles, the government under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme announced support for electric vehicles with incentives. 
 
520 charging stations have been sanctioned under the Phase-I of FAME India Scheme. Out of 520 charging stations, 452 EV charging stations has been installed. In Phase-II of FAME-India Scheme, Rs. 1000 Cr. is allocated for the development of charging infrastructure. This Ministry has sanctioned 2,877 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in 68 cities across 25 States/UTs. Further, 1576 charging stations have been sanctioned across 9 Expressways and 16 Highways under Phase II of FAME India Scheme. Read More.
