Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asked about the killing of her father Rajiv Gandhi when she met her in prison in 2008, Nalini Sriharan, one of the convicts freed in the former prime minister's assassination case said here on Sunday, the Press Trust of India reported.
Priyanka Gandhi turned emotional and cried when she met her in the Vellore Central Prison over a decade ago, Nalini told reporters here answering a question on the meeting.
Now, a Congress party leader, she had then sought to know about the assassination of her father and Nalini said she divulged whatever she knew.

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit and Party's spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawala on Sunday slammed Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by putting out 'Lootera' poster on various platforms of social media.
Speaking to ANI, Poonawala said, "Today the entire people of Delhi are saying Aam Aadmi Party is a party of lootera and therefore, the BJP Delhi today has put out only the sentiment of the people of Delhi. BJP is not in any mood to give space to Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia."
Poonawala further said, "This is a liquor motion production film directed by Arvind Kejriwal and it is a Maha Thug and Sukesh production film where the star cast involves Satyendra Jain, Manish Sisodia and all the others who have been looting Delhi in one after the other scam from 'Sharaab Ghotala' to Tihar Ke Andar Ghotala' to 'Hawala Ghotala'. And, therefore, this is a reflection of the sentiment of the people of Delhi."

Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani has entered the race to bid for world-renowned English football club Liverpool FC's takeover, reported a leading English daily.
The English Premier League giants have been put up for sale by their current owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who bought the Merseyside club in October 2010 and have reportedly appointed Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to assist them in selling the team, the Press Trust of India reported.
According to 'The Mirror', the FSG are willing to sell the club for 4 billion British pound.

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio is India's strongest telecom brand in India, ahead of Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea Ltd, according to brand intelligence and data insights company TRA, the Press Trust of India reported.
TRA, formerly Trust Research Advisory, in its 'India's Most Desired Brands 2022' ranked companies according to their brand strength.

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said that if the ordinance sent to Raj Bhavan by the CPI(M)-led government was intended to target him, then he will not sit in judgement over it and would refer the same to the President.
Khan, while speaking to reporters in New Delhi on Saturday evening, said he was yet to see the ordinance or go through it and would take a decision only after that, the Press Trust of India reported.
"If I am the target, then I shall not be the judge in my own cause. I won't declare it now. I will see it and if I come to the conclusion that the purpose is to target me, then I shall not sit in judgement (over it). I shall refer (to the President)," he said.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday addressed the East Asia Summit here on the last day of his visit to Cambodia.
An official in the Ministry of External Affairs said that the vice president's address was a closed session, the Press Trust of India reported.
Dhankhar is in Cambodia for his three-day visit. This year marks the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-India relations and is being celebrated as the ASEAN-India Friendship Year.

The commerce ministry has terminated an anti-dumping investigation into import of solar cells from China, Thailand and Vietnam following a request from the Indian Solar Manufacturers Association(ISMA).
On May 15, 2021, the ministry's investigation arm Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) initiated a probe into alleged dumping of "solar cells whether or not assembled into modules or panels" exported from the three nations, following a complaint by the association, the Press Trust of India reported.
"In view of the request made by the domestic industry, ISMA,...the authority hereby terminates the investigation initiated on May 15, 2021... against the imports of solar cells whether or not assembled into modules or panels exported by these countries," the DGTR said in a notification.

After a political controversy erupted following an announcement by Karnataka Congress MLA Tanveer Sait promising the installation of a 100 feet Tipu Sultan's statue in Srirangapatna, former chief minister of the state Siddaramaiah hit out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that the party has been busy distorting the history around the 18th-century warrior, the ANI reported.
"Why can't the statue of Tipu Sultan be built? Does he not deserve a statue? The BJP always distorts history. One should remember what they said about Narayan Guru, Ambedkar and others. They always twist and falsify facts," Siddaramaiah said on Saturday.
Tanveer Sait on Thursday promised a 100 feet statue of Tipu Sultan in Srirangapatna or Karnataka's Mysuru that erupted in a political row.

The ICC on Sunday said the Afghanistan government supports the world body's constitution and has "in principle" agreed to resuming women's cricket in the country, the Press Trust of India reported.
Afghanistan cricket, especially the women's game, had plunged into uncertainty last year due to the drastic changes in the political landscape following the takeover of the country by the Taliban.
There were reports that Afghan women, including the country's women's cricket team, were banned from playing sport under the Taliban administration.

China's military flew 36 fighter jets and bombers near Taiwan, the Taiwanese defence ministry announced, part of a long-running campaign of intimidation against the self-ruled island democracy that Beijing claims as part of its territory.
Ten of the aircraft on Saturday flew across the median line in the Taiwan Strait that separates the island from the mainland, the ministry said. It said they included six Shenyang J-11 and four J-16 aircraft, the AP reported.
Taiwan and China split in 1949 following a civil war that ended with the Communist Party in control of the mainland.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending G20 Summit on November 14-16th in Bali as India will be assuming the group's presidency from December 1, 2022.
Indian Ambassador to Indonesia on Sunday during an interaction with ANI said, "Prime minister visit is short but it's very important visit here in G20 summit in Bali," Manoj Kumar Bharti told ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate at the 17th G20 Summit where he will formally take over India's G20 Chairmanship for 2023.

India logged 734 new coronavirus infections taking the tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,46,66,377, while the active cases dipped to 12,307, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Sunday, the Press Trust of India reported.
The death toll has climbed to 5,30,531 with three more fatalities, including one reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am showed.
The active cases comprises 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.78 per cent, according to the health ministry website.

Meta, Twitter, Salesforce, Lyft, Stripe, Uber and tech giants like Microsoft and Google, have laid off employees as well as put a total freeze on new hirings, the IANS reported.

The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Saturday registered an FIR against unidentified persons in connection with the alleged embezzlement of funds of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) worth Rs 20 crore, according to the officials.
According to the ACB, in 2019 the vigilance department of the DJB discovered "serious fraud" and embezzlement of DJB money by the officials/agencies concerned, the ANI reported.
"The Vigilance Department, after scrutinizing the documents seized from the Revenue Department of DJB, has concluded that the preliminary investigation into the matter reveals embezzlement of DJB funds amounting to Rs 20 crore and above," an official statement said.

Sembcorp Industries will acquire Vector Green Energy for Rs 2,780 crore to expand its renewable energy footprint in India to 3 gigawatts (GW), the company said on Sunday.
The completion of the acquisition will bring the Singapore-based group's gross renewable energy capacity to 8.5 GW, closer to its 2025 target of 10 GW of gross installed renewable capacity, the Press Trust of India reported.
"Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) announces that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Infra Limited, has signed an agreement with India Infrastructure Fund II, a fund managed by Global Infrastructure Partners India Pvt Ltd, to acquire 100 per cent interest in Vector Green Energy Private Limited (Vector Green) for a base equity consideration of approximately Rs 2,780 crore," it said in a statement.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress took a one-day break in Maharashtra on Sunday and it will proceed from Kalamnuri in Hingoli district to Washim on Monday.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed a public gathering in Kalamnuri on Saturday night, the sixth day of the yatra in Maharashtra, and said the message of the foot march led by him was that India cannot be divided and hatred would not be allowed to be spread, the Press Trust of India reported.
The Congress leader had also targeted the state and Central governments over the shifting of mega projects like the Vedanta-Foxconn and the Tata Airbus from Maharashtra to poll-bound Gujarat.

At least one sitting Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and four former legislators have threatened to contest as independents after being denied tickets by the BJP for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections, the Press Trust of India reported.
While some of these disgruntled leaders have said they will make their next move after consulting supporters, former BJP MLA and the party's known tribal face Harshad Vasava already filed his nomination papers on Friday as an independent from Nandod seat, reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates.
Vasava is the president of Gujarat BJP's Scheduled Tribe Morcha and represented the erstwhile Rajpipla seat between 2002 and 2007 and from 2007 to 2012.

The Centre has told the Supreme Court that genetically modified (GM) mustard will contribute to Indias self-sustenance with respect to production of edible oil and it will go a long way in realising the vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.
Recently, the Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) allowed the environmental release of GM mustard for seed production and testing, the IANS reported.
In an affidavit filed before the top court, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) said that increased domestic production of edible oil due to deployment of GM mustard hybrids will reduce the dependency on other exporting countries.

The global economy cannot afford to be split into two opposing camps, UN chief Antonio Guterres said at a press conference in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on Saturday.
"As I told yesterday's summit meeting, we must avoid at all costs the division of the global economy into two parts, led by the two biggest economies - the United States and China," the UN Secretary-General said during a presser at the Cambodian capital, the ANI reported.
"Such a rift, with two different sets of rules, two dominant currencies, two internets, and two conflicting strategies on artificial intelligence, would undermine the world's capacity to respond to the dramatic challenges we face," he added.

The decision for the appointment of the next army chief of Pakistan will be made in London, claimed former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday as he slammed both PM Shehbaz Sharif, who is in the UK to meet his elder brother Nawaz Sharif, and Nawaz himself.
"Today, a spectacle is taking place in London. Nowhere does such a scene takes place. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in London. What is the purpose of the meeting? Talks are being held on the decision to choose the Pakistan army chief," said the PTI chief, in a video posted on his party's social media handles, in reference to Shehbaz's purported talks on the appointment of the next army chief, the ANI reported.
"The important decisions of the country are taken abroad and by those who have looted Pakistan for the last 30 years," he added.

The air quality in Delhi witnessed a relative improvement on Sunday morning as the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital stood at 320, as per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) at 8.
Despite this relative improvement, the city's air quality is still in 'very poor' category. On Saturday it was recorded at 353, the ANI reported.
The National Capital Region (NCR) also continued to witness bad air as Noida also registered very poor air quality with an AQI of 341 while Gurugram's AQI stood at 324 and continued to remain in the 'very poor' category.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday lashed out at the Election Commission alleging that the poll body has "become a branch of the BJP", while also accusing it of conducting elections on the saffron party's "signals", the ANI reported.
The PDP chief alleged that the Election Commission is "no longer independent".
"The Election Commission of India has now become a branch of the BJP. It stays silent, like when BJP campaigned on the basis of religious propaganda in Himachal Pradesh. ECI is no longer independent like it used to be. ECI conducts election on BJP's signals," Mufti said.

Six people are feared dead after a B-17 heavy bomber collided with another aircraft and crashed during an airshow in Dallas, Texas, a local affiliate of ABC News broadcaster reported on Saturday.
The incident occurred during "America's Premier World War II Airshow,", which was reportedly Veterans Day weekend, where guests were to see more than 40 World War II-era aircraft.
Leah Block, a spokesperson for Commemorative Air Force, told ABC News that she believes there were five crew members on the B-17 and one aboard the P-63.

A top Iranian human rights official on Sunday blamed US sanctions that deny Iranians access to essential medicines for thousands of deaths in the country during the first two years of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kazem Gharibabadi, Secretary of the Iranian High Council for Human Rights and Deputy Chief of the Iranian Judiciary for International Affairs, made the remarks while speaking to Iranian media in New York, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported. During the visit, he will attend the UN General Assembly Third Committee meetings, according to IRNA.
Gharibabadi noted that the sanctions, preventing Iran from transferring money through financial channels, made it difficult for the country to import Covid-19 vaccines and the necessary medicine during that period, Xinhua news agency reported.

Turkey is trying to open a peace dialogue between Russia and Ukraine although the West, particularly the US, provokes Moscow, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
