Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, whose Rajya Sabha term ends on June 14, today filed nomination papers from Assam to get re-elected to the Upper House. Singh has been representing Assam in the Rajya Sabha since joining politics in 1991. He arrived in Guwahati in the forenoon and went straight to the Assam Legislative Assembly, where he filed the nomination papers. "Assam has done a great honour to me by sending me to the Rajya Sabha. I am deeply indebted to the people of Assam," Singh said.

He was accompanied by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Congress leaders, including Digvijaya Singh.
