Police notice in NSEL scam to attach ARK firms' properties

The economic offences wing (EOW) of the city police, currently investigating the National Spot Exchange Ltd (NSEL) scam, on Thursday issued a first notice under the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (in Financial Establishments)

Act for the attachment of properties of the ARK companies, which owe Rs 288 crore to the exchange.

EOW is tageting the properties of defaulters, starting with the properties. It will now approach the court to seek an order for attachment of ARK properties. The EOW officer said it had prepared a list of 20-25 properties for attachment.

The officer said the EOW was confident that the value of assets of the borrowers, the promoters of the ARK companies, would be sufficient for recovering investors’ money.

The officer said NSEL's former chief executive, Anjani Sinha, would be moved to Saharanpur, UP. This is based on a complaint filed there by borrowers against NSEL. The police there are seeking a transit remand for his custody.

NSEL’s former chairman, Shankarlal Guru, 93, was summoned on Thursday but failed to appear at the EOW, citing medical conditions.

The official said NSEL’s former director, B D Pawar, would appear for questioning on Friday.
