Rise in ceasefire violations from across border: J&K govt

Ceasefire violations from across the Line of Control (LoC) have increased this year with 105 such incidents reported in Jammu province alone, Jammu and Kashmir government said on Friday.

"There has been increase in incidents of ceasefire violations during the year 2013 along the LoC. During this year up to September 25, 105 cases of ceasefire violations have been reported in Jammu province which includes the areas of Poonch and Rajouri," J&K Minister for Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar said in the Legislative Council.

The minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice by National Conference MLC Shehnaz Ganai.

He said though the people living in areas near LoC are affected by the shelling, particularly in Poonch and Rajouri districts, there was no proposal to shift the population from such areas.

"At present there is no proposal for shifting or rehabilitation of the people of border areas under the consideration of government," he said.

Sagar said six civilians have been injured due to the ceasefire violations in Poonch district, while there has been no report of loss of life or injury to any person in Rajouri and Jammu districts of the region.

He said ex-gratia relief has been paid to the injured persons.
