Cyclone and heavy rainfall destroyed thousands of houses in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.

Most of the houses with thatched and tin roofs were blown away along with the strong winds on Sunday.

"Heavy rainstorm enveloped the area due to which 3500 houses were destroyed and Bhutan border check post has been completely destroyed after heavy rainfall," said a resident, Muhammad Shami Ahmad.

Severe storm and hail storm uprooted the trees which led to the blockage of the National Highway.

The cyclone caused major rivers and tributaries to overflow, submerging villages and stranding thousands of people, who had to spent the nights in shelters.
