Tiger Memon called family in Mumbai before Yakub hanging: report

Mushtaq 'Tiger' Memon, brother of Yakub Memon and one of India's most wanted criminals reportedly rang up the Memon household on the morning of July 30, hours before Yakub was hanged to death.

A recent report in the Economic Times stated that the call was made to the family landline number, which was being monitored by a Mumbai Police wing. The conversation between Tiger and his mother Hanifa Memon was recorded by the authorities, contents of which have become a cause of concern for security agencies.

The media report states that Tiger promised to avenge the execution of Yakub's death. "Main unko chukwaonga (I will make them pay)," said Tiger to his mother, as per reported transcripts of the call. 

The call transcript also suggests that Hanifa Memon pleads with Tiger to stop all violence - a plea that falls on deaf ears, as reported by ET. Repeating his message for revenge, Tiger promises that the "tears of the family will not go waste".

As per reports, Mumbai police officials said that the call was made using voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) facilities. The Internet protocol (IP) address however could not be identified by the authories, as the source of the call kept bouncing from one IP address to another. 

The call last for three minutes, said authorities in the report.

While officials from security agencies in Mumbai and Delhi confirmed the call to ET, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) KP Bakshi said that he was not aware of the phone conversation between Tiger and his family. 

Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria also did not respond to a text message seeking comments, said the report in ET.
