A low intensity blast using a crude improvised explosive device ripped through the reception area of a private hospital in the city this evening, leaving six injured. It was not immediately clear whether the explosion at the 70-bedded Jai hospital, located three km from Taj Mahal, was a terror attack or the handiwork of some criminal gang.
Security at Taj has been beefed up as it has been on the radar of terrorists for an attack. The explosion, which occurred at 5:45 pm, broke the window panes in the reception area where 10-15 people were seated in steel chairs. Preliminary reports said the bomb may have been kept below a chair. A team of the National Security Guards was rushed to the spot.
