The BJP today welcomed the raising of income ceiling for creamy layer but demanded reservation for the economically backward in the upper caste to bring "parity in the society".
"The raising of income level for the creamy layer is a welcome step and a long pending demand has been met but the process of social justice can only be complete with reservation to the economically backward in upper caste like that in Rajasthan," party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said here.
In the wake of Gujjar agitation earlier this year, the BJP government in Rajasthan had introduced reservation for the economically backward in the upper caste along with a special quota for agitating Gujjars.
