Crack teams formed to enforce code of conduct

Eight crack teams have been formed in Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency to enforce the model code of conduct during the elections to the Lok Sabha.

Dharwad constituency will go for polls in second phase on April 30. Deputy commissioner Darpan Jain who is also the chief electoral officer of the constituency giving details of the arrangements made for the smooth conduct of elections said the crack teams, led by senior officials, will have officials from police, zilla panchayatômunicipal corporation/ revenue, PWD and local authorities as members.

The administration has set up daily monitoring system (DMS) which will supervise all election related activities on day-to-day basis and record the events. Jain said any violation of model code of conduct would be viewed very seriously and suitable action taken against those flouting norms. The DC said he would soon convene a meeting of political parties and enlighten them on the model code of conduct.

Calender of events: The gazette notification regarding the election in the 11- Dharwad parliamentary constituency would be issued on April 2, 2009. April 9 is the last date for filing nominations. The papers will be scrutinised on April 11 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is (before 3 PM) April 13. The polling will be on April 30 and the counting of votes will take place on May 16. The entire election process would come to an end on May 28.

The mustering and demustering of electronic voting machines will be at following places. Navalgund Segment: Tahasildar’s office, Navalgund, Kundgol segment; Tahasildar’s office, Kundgol, Dharwad Segment: Basel Mission English Medium School, Dharwad. Hubli-Dharwad East: Lamington Boys High School, Hubli, Hubli-Dharwad Central: Lamington Girls’ High School, Hubli, Hubli-Dharwad West: Kalas Bhavan, Dharwad, Kalghatagai: Kannada Boys Model School, Kalghatagi, Shiggaon: G M J High School, Shiggaon.

The counting of votes will take place at Farmers’ hostel (New Building) in University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad.
