The Election Commission yesterday announced holding of a Rajya Sabha biennial election to fill a vacancy from Pondicherry and a by-election in Andhra Pradesh on October three.
According to the poll programme issued by the commission here, the notification will be issued on September 16 and the last date for filing nomination will be September 23. Scrutiny will be done the next day by the Election Commission .
The last date for withdrawal of candidatures will be on September 26. While the biennial election has been necessitated by the retirement of V Narayanaswamy (Congress), the by-election in Andhra Pradesh has been caused by the death of N Giri Prasad (Communist Party of India).
