As a part of its initiatives for implementation of Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP), Gujarat Ecology Commission (GEC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with six villages situated in South Gujarat near Dandi for environmental development in surrounding areas. To extend funding for the purpose, Gujarat’s Forest & Environment Minister Mangubhai Patel on Sunday handed over checks amounting to Rs 5 lakh to the respective committees of each village.
Under the MoU, GEC has given freedom to the villagers to undertake development as per their wish. As per the agreement, the amount will be used for various purposes such as protection of natural resources and plantation of mangroves and the project will be undertaken in association with some NGOs. The six villages are Dandi, Samapor, Matwad, Onajal, Sultanpur and Aant and th amount allocated to each is .
