Germany, the global machine tool power house, is exploring opportunities to enter into joint ventures with Indian machine tool manufacturers.

The visiting German delegation to International Machine Tool Exhibition (IMTEX 2007) is looking for possible tie-ups with original equipment manufacturers to set up production lines and also stimulate scientific and technological alliances between Indian and German manufacturers, suppliers and buyers.

Thomas Jurk, Minister of Economic Affairs and Labour, state of Saxony, Germany, who is leading the German delegation said, "We are here to explore mutual benefits for both German and Indian machine tool industry."

He was speaking after formally launching the International Machine Tool Forum (IMTF) at IMTEX 2007. The IMTF has been launched under the aegis of the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA).

The basic objective of IMTF is to showcase emerging technology in the machine tool industry like high speed machining, near-net-shape manufacturing, intelligent machine systems for forming processes and mechatronics "" processes that enable highly productive solutions for manufacturing industry.

The launch of IMTF follows the Indian CEOs' technology mission to Germany in June 2006. The team had gone to explore opportunities for joint technology development and strategic R&D initiatives between German universities and technical institutes, and Indian machine tool companies.

Around 120 decision makers from manufacturing industries, especially suppliers to the automobile and aerospace industries represent the forum.

Commenting on the launch of IMTF, C P Rangachar, president, IMTMA said, "IMTF is intended to serve as a gateway for leading suppliers of machine tools and controls from Germany for strategic alliances with Indian manufacturers."

IMTMA's technology division is aggressively pursuing ways and means to disseminate information and technological developments as well as new technologies for business enhancement.

"The IMTF is one such initiative and the forum is expected to achieve the objective of replicating proven technological practices and innovating successful technology modules for the Indian market," he said.
