A government statement said MSP used to be fixed for the pulses in the past but these were not purchased. However, Maharashtra and Karnataka has proposed to lift moong. This prompted the government to advance procurement of pulses. NAFED has readied plans to purchase moong in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana as well.
Other states have also been advised to send proposals to the Centre to purchase moong at MSP, in case prices go below the government-determined floor. MSP was fixed at Rs 5,275 per quintal. Moong price has come down of late. It fell to Rs 85 a kg in Delhi on Tuesday in retail markets against Rs 94 a month ago, according to the department of consumer affairs website.
