The government today said the National Jute Manufacturers Corporation (NJMC) would be revived through the public-private partnership route.
Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran said it had been estimated that an amount of Rs 1,202 crore would be required to revive NJMC.
Out of the six NJMC mills in West Bengal, three were lying closed.
At an interactive session on 'The future of Indian jute industry', Maran said there was a necessity for creating a brand equity fund for promotion of jute products abroad.
He said the government would work towards these policies in consultation with the commerce ministry and banks.
