The Himachal Pradesh government has moved a step closer to the controversial policy of converting leasehold land into freehold land. This could soon become a policy as the cabinet sub-committee under state revenue minister Gulab Singh has proposed these recommendations.
It was also proposed in the meeting that the prevalent rules regarding conversion of leasehold into freehold should be studied in the neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Chandigarh.
Gulab Singh said efforts should also be made to identify commercial complexes and establishments coming up in rural areas on government land so that lease hold could be changed.
