Rich in hydro-electricity potential, Himachal Pradesh has so far tapped 6,470 Mw of the total potential of 23,000 Mw.

This was stated by the state’s Chief Minister P K Dhumal in a written reply in the state Assembly here on Tuesday.

“Till date the state sector has tapped almost 467 Mw, the central sector 3,991 Mw, joint sector 1,500 Mw.While the private sector has a share of 412 Mw and the state-run Himurja dealing micro projects has tapped 100 Mw,” Dhumal said.

“The entire potential of 23,000 Mw is expected to be tapped by 2024-25,” he informed the House.

In a written reply to another question about hydel projects which have stopped generation, he said the Gumma and Bassi hydel projects were shut down.

While the Gumma project has been closed since June 2009 due to water leakage in the power channel, the Bassi project has been shut down since October last year due to renovation and upgradation work.
